With immense pleasure and pride, I invite you to participate in the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus's (UPR-MSC) 44th Annual Research and Education Forum. This eminent event, a highlight of our academic year, is scheduled for March 13th to 15th, 2024, at the UPR MSC.
Our Forum embodies our dedication to advancing scientific inquiry and educational prowess this year. Embracing the inspiring theme "Explore, Share, and Connect," we are poised for a journey filled with intellectual discovery and collaborative endeavors. More than an event, our Forum celebrates the relentless spirit of curiosity and exploration that thrives at the UPR-MSC.
We continue to embrace the traditional format of the Forum, featuring both oral and poster sessions. These components are pivotal to our mission, providing a stage for our students, faculty, and researchers to present their exhaustive research and educational endeavors. These sessions are not merely showcases of academic accomplishment but also fertile ground for sparking innovative thought and forging collaborative bonds.
We are privileged to welcome four distinguished scholars as our plenary speakers. Dr. Paul Harris, a professor at Vanderbilt University specializing in biomedical informatics, biostatistics, and biomedical engineering, will illuminate the NIH "All of Us" Research Program, focusing on researcher access and providing insights into the REDCap Consortium's origins and recent developments.
Dr. Mariola Espinosa, a respected historian of medicine and public health in the Caribbean and an associate professor at the University of Iowa, will share her profound knowledge of Puerto Rico's medical sciences heritage, providing attendees with a deeper historical context. Following her presentation, she will be formally installed as an Associate Researcher at the UPR MSC Institute of History of Health Sciences in Puerto Rico.
Dr. Jesús G. Valenzuela, the Vector Molecular Biology Section Chief at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, will deliver the 62nd Bailey K. Ashford Memorial Lecture. His talk on pioneering research in malaria and vector studies promises enlightening.
Lastly, Dr. Salvatore Sauro, a professor in dental biomaterials and minimally invasive dentistry at Universidad CEU-Cardenal Herrera, will discuss advancements in dental biomaterials. His presentation will cover the degradation processes at the resin-tooth bonding interface, the interaction of bioactive materials with dental tissues for remineralization, and the benefits of air-abrasion procedures with bioglass powder in adhesive restorations.
Together, these experts will offer groundbreaking insights and research findings, enriching our conference with their vast knowledge and expertise in medical and scientific fields.
I encourage the entire scientific and educational community in Puerto Rico to engage in this pivotal event. The UPR-MSC 44th Annual Forum is a platform for academic exchange and knowledge dissemination and an opportunity for networking and fostering enduring connections and new collaborations within our vibrant community and with other Forum participants. Let's explore new frontiers, share our experiences and knowledge, and connect with peers, mentors, and leaders in diverse fields.
